Revelations of Guilt
With his masterwork ‘La Cérémonie’ screening at this year’s French Film Festival, this talk will reflect on the often darkly humorous work of the wickedest of Parisians.
Claude Chabrol rode in on the crest of the Nouvelle Vague only to hit a slump in the early 60s. He recovered with a stunning sequence of psychological thrillers between 1968-71, including ‘Le Boucher’ and thereafter produced films with astonishing prolificacy over the next 40 years, wildly inconsistent in quality, but including such gems as ‘La Cérémonie’. In this talk Patrick Hargood, the cinema’s Education Officer, will be sorting the diamonds from the dross.
