This love letter to the movies and the people who make it follows a virtuoso cellist from a family of musicians who returns to Los Angeles after 20 years on the road. Look out for our special Sunday screening which includes a live cello and piano performance.
A gifted cellist, Alex Serian (Pedro Pascal), enters the high-stress world of Hollywood film scoring. This musical process triggers a nonlinear, 15-to-20-year chronicle of flashbacks explaining why he left Los Angeles and what happened in his past. Music, which has been the constant, all-consuming river of his life, has carried Alex on an adventure that changed him forever. Tony Gilroy, screenwriter of many hits including the ‘Bourne’ film series, directs his third film – you may remember his first, 2007’s ‘Michael Clayton’. Here, he skilfully crafts the musical score as an active narrative layer, cutting between live orchestration and Alex's real-life reflections. Also stars Olivia Wilde (‘The Invite’), Will Arnett (‘Is This Thing On’) and Hank Azaria.
