Le Fantôme de l'Opéra
A classic of French literature is reborn in present day Paris. Gaston Leroux's cult novel, The Phantom of the Opera, published in 1910, has been adapted and directed by Alexandre Castagnetti into a daring blend of thriller, fantasy, and romance, set against the sumptuous backdrop of the Opéra Garnier.
James Figueras (Romain Duris) is an ambitious artistic director at the Opéra Garnier, while 18-year-old ballet dancer Anastasia (Deva Cassel) is about to have her life forever changed. While rehearsing the cursed opera ‘Orpheus’, supposedly written by the Phantom, she falls for mysterious pianist Ernest Dupré (Julien De Saint-Jean). As opening night approaches, she finds herself between unexplained accidents and worrying revelations. Director Castagnetti cleverly manages to retain the elegance and dramatic tension of the original story. (Subtitles)
