Set in an English boarding school, Extra Geography follows two teenage girls as they grapple with all the challenges of girlhood: friendship, boys, studies, growing up and their summer project, "to fall in love".
Minna (Galaxie Clear) and Flic (Marni Duggan) begin year 10 in the early 2000s, in a sunny meadow of boundless, heady entanglement. They move in playful unison, share beds and mannerisms, hold common goals (Oxbridge) and disdain (for boys, and those who covet them). Inspired by ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, the worldly co-ed summer play for which they reluctantly audition, they decide to fall in love with the first person they see. That would be Miss Delavigne (Alice Englert), their frumpy and aloof geography teacher. Director Manners is particularly attuned to the energizing rhythm of platonic-ish intimacy. Uncompromisingly sharp-tongued and led by two sensational newcomers, ‘Extra Geography’ finds much humour and tenderness in feminine angst and youthful cluelessness.
