In this classic 1935 screen adaptation of Shakespeare's fantastical play, two couples and a troupe of actors have an encounter with some mischievous fairies in the forest.
The royal wedding plans of Theseus, the duke of Athens (Ian Hunter) and Hippolyta (Verree Teasdale) overlap with the antics of forest fairies, led by Oberon (Victor Jury) and Titania (Anita Louise), and a ragtag troupe of actors that include James Cagney as Bottom. Meanwhile, young lovers, including Lysander (Dick Powell) and Hermia (Olivia de Havilland in her film debut), deceive each other in amusing ways, and magic adds a mischievous element to this enchanted romantic comedy.
