AMORES PERROS (18)

AMORES PERROS

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s emotional, ambitious and vivid debut film caught everyone’s attention years before his two consecutive Best Director Oscars for ‘Birdman’ (2015) and ‘The Revenant’ (2016).

An amateur dog fighter, a supermodel and a derelict assassin, all separately struggling to find love, find their lives transformed by a devastating car wreck in Mexico City. Inventively structured as a triptych of overlapping and intersecting narratives, ‘Amores Perros’ explores the lives of disparate characters who are catapulted into unforeseen dramatic situations instigated by the seemingly inconsequential destiny of a dog named Cofi. Not only was this one of the outstanding debut Latin American films for any director, but it was also actor Gael García Bernal’s first film, propelling him to star in ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ the following year, as well as working with Pedro Almodóvar in ‘Bad Education’ and starring as Che Guevara in ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’.
