ZAMANI DAR ABADIYAT
A mysterious man's arrival shatters Maryam's fragile world in Iran, sending her on a journey to find her missing husband. Grief becomes awakening and survival becomes self-discovery.
Maryam’s (Leila Hatami, ‘A Separation) fragile world is upended when she discovers her husband has gone missing. As she sets out with her teenage daughter to retrace his final steps, she faces intense emotional strain, societal pressures and the unwelcome, predatory advances of her brother-in-law. Along the way, a calm and uncanny stranger introduces a spiritual shift that alters her path and forces her toward self-discovery. Set in Tehran, the film subtly examines the underlying mechanisms of oppression, particularly the misuse of masculinity, religion and tradition, through the lens of a single mother’s experience. Leila Hatami leads the film beautifully, widely recognised for her role in Oscar winning ‘A Separation’ by Asghar Farhadi, and remains a deeply respected figure within the global Persian community. The shoot coincided with Mahza Amini’s uprising in Iran and it has had to ride the storms of the troubles for a few years out of Iran. (Subtitles)
