A 17-year-old orphan is sent from England to live under the guardianship of her uncle on the beautiful island of Mauritius.
1925: When Lucy Gladwell (Ellie Bamber, ‘Moss & Freud’) arrives in enchanting Mauritius off the eastern coast of Africa, her uncle, English plantation owner George Huyton (Rupert Penry-Jones), has his plans for her go off trail very quickly. Huyton is charming but controlling, and his wish to marry Lucy off for financial gain is scuppered when she begins a forbidden love affair with a local Tamil plantation worker called Krishna (Mehdi Dehbi). To be together, Lucy and Krishna must risk everything and defy a world determined to tear them apart. This is the first feature film to authentically portray Mauritius to the world and celebrate the island’s multicultural history.
