A father and daughter attempt to repair their relationship and reconcile a shared tragedy against the backdrop of the Regional Dance Finals.
Claire (Audrey Zahn) and her mom Deb (Rosemarie DeWitt) are mildly panicked, because an emergency has come up and Deb can’t accompany Claire to her last-ever dance competition. Estranged father Jason (Steve Zahn) is roped in to the rescue – much against his wishes – but encouraged to do so by his best friend Brian (Ethan Hawke). The whirlwind of the Young Miss Southeast Regional Dance Finals becomes the backdrop for a road trip that reveals a shared pain and a path toward healing. ‘She Dances’ is a story about rediscovering family and finding yourself - about accepting what is, letting it shape you, and recognizing who you are through the memories of those you love most. While most will point to Steve Zahn and Ethan Hawke as obvious highlights with their years of acting credits behind them, it is newcomer Audrey Zahn (yes – Steve’s daughter) who steals the show with an exceptional performance.
