In this dark send-up of moviemaking, Egypt's most adored actor falls into disgrace with the authorities overnight. On the verge of losing everything, he is forced to accept an offer he can't refuse.
George Fahmy (Fares Fares) is the most loved actor of his nation. When he is pressured to star in a propaganda film called ‘The Will of the People’, commissioned by the highest authorities, he reluctantly accepts and finds himself thrown into the inner circle of power. Like a moth drawn to the flame, he begins an affair with Suzanne (Zineb Triki), the mysterious wife of the general overseeing the film. Director Tarik Saleh blends old fashioned suspense, dark political satire and romance into a fitfully entertaining portrait of celebrity and moral compromise. You may have previously seen his impressive ‘The Nile Hilton Incident’ or ‘Cairo Conspiracy’ at Chichester Cinema. “A satire with a dissident energy and a dark denouement, it’s an Armando Iannucci-esque send-up of something deadly serious”. – Time Out.
