Hungary, 1956: A young boy, raised by his mother with the tale of an idealized dead father, is confronted with a brutish man who claims to be his real father.
Growing up in Budapest in the late 1950s, shortly after the quashing of the anti-Communist uprising of 1956, is young Andor (Bojtorján Barabás). His painful life journey to date is thrown into confusion when a man, Berend (Grégory Gadebois), appears from his mother's (Andrea Waskovics) past. Andor discovers the true story of her survival during World War II and has to come to terms with this man as a usurping father he only has hatred for. From the director of Best Foreign Film Oscar winner ‘Son of Saul’ (2015), this is a film that will keep you guessing, due mostly to young Barabas’s energised alertness and ability to register Andor’s pain without overstatement.
