The children of a once famous artist hire a forger to complete some unfinished, long ago abandoned canvases so they'll have an inheritance when he dies.
Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) is a once-brilliant painter who has sullied his name over time with awful behaviour. Now, separated from the world he looks down on, from his crumbling, yet expansive, London townhouse, he is cursed with two vile, talentless children (Jessica Gunning – ‘Baby Reindeer’; and James Corden – ‘Gavin and Stacey’). They are only interested in their inheritance and see an opportunity with a set of nine unfinished paintings in the loft – The Christophers. The siblings hire an art restorer, Lori (the brilliant Michaela Coel), to finish the paintings without their father’s knowledge, convinced that this will guarantee their fortune. The two lead actors play off each other beautifully in this intimate comedy drama about art, commerce and the mess in-between. This is the third London-set Steven Soderbergh film in two years, following ‘Presence’ and ‘Black Bag’.
