This documentary follows gravel-voiced Leonard Cohen on his 1972 European tour. Long lost 16mm prints were restored for this 2010 release, not seen since 1972.
After being invited to follow Cohen on what was then billed as one of his last ever tours, our crew of only four filmed the Canadian singer songwriter – or poet as he preferred to be called – on the road across Europe, ending up at a final gig in Jerusalem. What is valuable about the film today is not only that it contains 17 of Cohen’s greatest songs performed by him in his prime, but it has a real feel for the rough and tumble, and difficulties, of life on the road.
