A mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports a neighbourhood to someplace unknown.
One day, the Platt family - Denise (Anne Hathaway) and Greg (Ewan McGregor) - discover their street, and indeed their whole suburban neighbourhood, mysteriously transported to the prehistoric era. They must barricade their house, scavenge for resources and fight for survival against roaming dinosaurs.
