A LATE QUARTET (15)

A LATE QUARTET

Join us for a live performance by The Slate Quartet of Beethoven 14th String Quartet opus 131 in C sharp major, accompanied by an intro about the piece, and followed by the 2012 film starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Christopher Walken, Catherine Keener and Mark Ivanir as a quartet struggling with the very same piece of music.

For 25 years, the Fugue, a string quartet, has wowed music-lovers with its skilled performances. However, as the musicians prepare to celebrate a milestone season together, cellist Peter (Walken) drops a bombshell on his comrades: he has Parkinson's disease and must soon retire. In the fallout from the shocking announcement, competing egos clash, long-simmering resentments bubble to the surface and marital infidelity rears its ugly head. An outstanding ensemble cast lends weight and depth to the film's melodramatic script, and the result is insightful and emotionally satisfying. Insightful and incandescent, this is a film for both music lovers and movie lovers.
