One of the most lovable characters ever put to film waddles into Priory Park, Chichester. Babe the pig is adorable, and this film has stood the test of time as one of the best family films of the 1990’s.
Gentle farmer Arthur Hoggett (James Cromwell) wins a piglet named Babe (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh) at a county fair. Narrowly escaping his fate as Christmas dinner, Babe bonds with motherly border collie Fly (Miriam Margolyes) and discovers that he too can herd sheep. But will the other farm animals, including Fly's jealous husband Rex (Hugo Weaving), accept a pig who doesn't conform to the farm's social hierarchy? Magda Szubanski is unforgettable as Esme Hoggett and the final scene will have the audience squealing with delight. ‘Babe’ is intelligent for adult viewers, agelessly diverting, and it is timelessly relevant to a story-book world where make-believe co-exists with the harshness of agricultural reality.
