Six-year-old Cléo loves her nanny Gloria more than anything. When Gloria must return to Cape Verde to care for her own children, the two must make the most of their last summer together.
Gloria (Ilça Moreno Zego) has looked after Cléo (Louise Mauroy-Panzani) since the child was a baby. The pair adore each other, so when Gloria’s mother’s passing calls her to return home to her native Cape Verde, their world is thrown into a spin. Cléo single dad (Arnaud Rebotini) who works long hours daily, sees how much his daughter misses her nanny and finally agrees that she spends her Summer holiday with Gloria. Most of the film takes place on the beautiful island in Cape Verde as Cléo shares a roof in Gloria’s tiny home with her two children, Nanda and César. This is an exceptional solo directorial debut from Marie Amachoukeli-Barsacq who based the story on her own childhood experience with her nanny. Critics have been raving about this remarkable, feel-good piece of cinema (100% on Rotten Tomatoes), and Mauroy-Panzani as six-year-old Cléo is a revelation.
